The Late Dr. A. C. Woolner and his interest in Jaina Studies
As soon as Dr. Woolner became aware of the existence of Jaina manuscripts in the Punjab, he wanted to get them catalogued. For this purpose he sent me to various places in 1917, 1923 and 1930. After a hard pursuation from him the Atmanand Jain Mahasabha, Punjab, made a donation of Rs. 1,000 to the University for this object, and the regular work of cataloguing the Jaina Bhandars was begun only a short time before his death.
Dr. Woolner always encouraged the M. A. students in Sanskrit to take up a Jaina subject for their thesis when they expressed a desire to do so. One of the students edited and translated Rajavallabha's Bhojacaritra, another translated Ramachandra Suri's Nalavilasa.
• The above is a brief account of what the Punjab University has done for the encouragement of Jaina studies in this province. The work would have been far greater in extent and variety if the Jaina graduates of the Punjab had availed themselves of Dr. Woolner's interests.

મહારે પ્રથમ મેળાપ થયો તે પછી . પુનરને નિકટ પરિચય પણ થયા છે. અને કહેવામાં બાધ નથી કે એમના જેવા શાન્ત, ગંભીર અને છતાં હસમુખા સ્વભાવના યુરોપીય વિદ્વાન આ દેશમાં ભાગ્યે જ નજરે પડશે. એમનાં પત્નીએ પ્રેમ અને હર્ષના આવેગમાં આવી મને એક વાર કહેલું: મી. ધ્રુવ, એમની મુખાકૃતિ તમને ક્રાઈસ્ટ જેવી નથી લાગતી ? એમનામાં કોઈ પ્રત્યે દ્વેષ ઈષ્ય વગેરે ભાવ મેં કદી જોયા જ નથી. ગુનરના જવા સાથે પ્રાચ્ય વિદ્યાનો છેલ્લો યુરોપીય વિદ્વાન આ દેશમાંથી ગયો.
