2. Ahinsa: Although countless saints bave algo en. logiged the doctrine of Abidea, but they all got tbe ori. ginal inspiration from Jainism, wbich greatly influenoed their customs and usages. Mabatma Gandbi is truly regarded the greatest apostle of Abinga, but in the words of Gandhi ji bimself, “Lord Mahavira is the 'Avatar'of Abiosa.“Whoever desires paradise sbould sacrifice & slaughter animals," was the common preachings in ancient India. Jainism raised a revolt against this misno mer and establisbed sacredness of all lives.'
Virta: Jainism is the religion professed by Jainas. Jaina ineans a follower of Jina, which word again etymologically signifies & conqueror, & victor, a lord triumphant, who subdues bis passions and frees bis soul from all Karmas and attains Omniscience. The religion of w0h conquerors is ofcourse a Conquering religion. Its Abinea in no bar to heroism, because according to Jainjom the pres9000 of passion is binga and its absence is Ahipsa. So one who is under the influence of passions is quilty of binga even if no one is actually injured; as under Pansion the spirit first injures the self. But one who is not moved by passions, avon kills thousands, doos not commit binga, bo oause his aim and intention is not to barm but tn avoid them from barm.
