देहली में नैन-रथ निकालना एक नियमित रिवाज न समझ कर (Never been customary at Delhi) राज्य कर्मचारी ने १८७७ ई० में जैनियों को रथ निकालने की आज्ञा न दी तो पंजाब के लाट सा० ने हुक्म दिया, “जैनियों का जुलूस इस प्रकार का नहीं है कि उसका विरोध किया जावे। इसकी मुखालफत केवल पक्षपात के कारण की जाती है, जो कदाचित् उचित नहीं है । जैनमूर्ति को अशिष्टतामय बताना गलत है, देहली के कमिश्नर ने स्वयं नग्न मूर्ति को देखा, परन्तु उसमें कोई ऐसी बात नहीं पाई जो विरोध के योग्य हो। लाट साहब महोदय कोई कारण नहीं समझते कि जैनियों को उनके धार्मिक कार्यों की रक्षा के लिये ब्रिटिश गवर्नमेण्ट का सहयोग क्यों प्राप्त न हो" ? १८७७ ई० में ही अम्बाला छावनी में जैन-रथ-यात्रा रोक दी गई तो Commanding Officer अम्बाला छावनी और पंजाब के लाट साहब ने खास प्रबन्ध कराकर उसे निकलवाया था। १८८२ ई० में कोसी में जैन-रथयात्रा निकालने की वहाँ के कलक्टर ने आज्ञा न दी तो यू०पी० सरकार ने आगरे के कमिश्नर को कह कर जैन-रथ निकलवाया । १८८८ में लखनऊ में भी जैन-रथ
१ Letter No. 2243 A. Dated Lahore, May 22, 1877 from Secretary Punjab Govt. to Commissioner Delhi. which runs as follows:
"The Saraogi (Jain) procession is of such a character that the opposition is fanciful and only made in a spirit of intolerence and bigotry. The present Commissioner of Delhi has himself seen idol and there in nothing whatever to object on this ground. The Lt. Governor fails to see why Saraogi (Jain) sect should not have right to the protection of the British Government, in
performance of their religious ceremonial. २ Letter No. 2483, Dated June 16, 1877 from Secretary Punjab
Govt. to Commissioner Ambala. Letter No 3976. Dated Nov. 13, 1882, from J. R. Reid Esqr. Offg. Secy. N.W.P.& Oudh Govt. to Comr. Agra, with the remark:
"The Govt. is not inclined to lay much stress on the mere fact that the procession is an innovation in Kosi”.
