૩. “હિસ્ટેરિયન”ના ગુજરાતી પર્યાય તરીકે “ઇતિહાસકાર” શબ્દ રૂઢ થયા જેવો છે, પરંતુ ઇતિહાસના જાણનાર કે લખનાર માટે, “ઇતિહાસ કરે છે તે” જેનો અર્થ થાય તેવો શબ્દ વાપરવો ઠીક લાગતો ન હતો. તેથી, પતંજલિએ મહાભાષ્યમાં ઇતિહાસને જાણનાર માટે “ઐતિહાસિક” અને પુરાણને જાણનાર માટે “પૌરાણિક એવા જે સંસ્કૃતમાં રૂઢ શબ્દો ઘટાવ્યા છે (The Vyakarana Mahabhasya of Patanjali, ed. by.
