ताव अ सोहइ माणो समुहं जाव पण ण खंडंति पिआ । खलिओ अ पणअ-पसरो पच्छा माणवइआ णिअत्तइ कम्हा ।। तावच शोभते मान: संमुखं यावत्प्रणयं न खण्डयन्ति प्रिया : । स्खलितश्च प्रणयप्रसर: पश्चाद् मानवती निवर्तते कस्मात् ॥] Translation : So long as the lover hides his offence from his lady, her sulkiness looks pleasing, but once she has become a witness to his misbehaviour, why should she stop feeling insulted ?
Prof. M. V. Patwardhan remarks : "Perhaps the idea is if a lover plays false with his wife (or beloved) right in her presence, she would leave him for ever and would never return to him to exhibit pride (or anger). The third quarter perhaps refers to संमुखं प्रणयखण्डनम् mentioned in the second quarter."

correctly be presented as follows :उम्मूलेंति व हिअअं अणुणिज्जंतीओ माणइत्तीओ । संभरिअ-मण्णु-णिष्भर-बाह-भरोरुभिअ-मुहीओ || (उन्मूलयन्तीव हृदयमनुनीयमाना मानवत्य : । संस्मृत-मन्यु-निर्भर-बाष्प-भरोपरुद्धमुख्य : 1)
Translation : It is a heart-rending situation when the libertine lover is trying to appease his lady and she feels choked by her tears at the remembrance of his wicked fatelessness.
Bhoja cites this gatha as an (alternative) example of Avega (- व्यलीकानुसंधानात् क्रोधोद्भेद आवेग : 1)
1032. Bhoja cites this skandhaka as an example of Amarsa (= कृतापराधेषु
क्रोधाप्रशान्तिरमर्षः।). He cites it again (p. 1036) with introductory words: "उभयदोषापादने यथा-"
Prof. M. V. Patwardhan's remarks on the restoration and its translation : "निष्फल-मृदुक - pliant (gentle) to no purpose, gentle in vain, uselessly gentle. 3TYRTEZRET - Imperative second person singular- '(By all means) play false to me fearlessly (विश्वस्त:) (unhesitantly).'
