Prakrit Verses in Sanskrit Works on Poetics
clouds are shattered by the fury of His (Man-lion's) roar.
Vimarsini cites this gatha as an example of Dharmotpreksa:
23. This gatha is already dealt with; vide VIS.No. (1.19) and KPS.No. (50.431).
Ruyyaka introduces it with the remark 'अभेदे भेदो यथा - ', and comments on it thus : अत्र लडहत्वादीनामभेदेऽप्यन्यत्वेन भेदः। ८५.
24. Read the first half of this gatha as follows :
In the second half of its chāyā read fuersatsaut. Ruyyaka thus comments on it :
* 25. This verse is pretty corrupt. Tentatively, it may be reconstructd as follows ::
।] Note : The long vowel in his shortened for the sake of metre. The găthă may be translated as follows :It is the moon-lotus with hundred petals that closes or shuts the moonlight; and it is the sun-lotus with a thousand petals that closes or shuts the thousand-rayed Sun.
*26. Ruyyaka's fifth variety of Atisayokti is based on the inversion of the sequence
of cause and effect (कार्यकारणपौर्वापर्यविध्वंस:). The inversion of the sequence of cause and effect may occur in two ways : (i) the effect may be supposed to precede the cause, or (ü) it may be supposed to take place simultaneously with the cause. Vimarsini cites this gatha with the introductory remark : 'तस्यैव सहभावो . यथा - ' and he thus comments on the gatha : अत्र परिजनादीनामपसरणे क्रमिकत्वेऽपि समकालत्वमध्यवसितम् । ८७.
Incidentally, it may be noted that the reading मसणं (Sk. मसृणम्) is doubtful.
