Prakrit Verses in Sanskrit Works on Poetics
1645. Read in the first half (उअ णिअ-पाअव-) रअणं (पश्य निजपादप-) रत्नम् = Look here
at this your own excellent tree (पाअव-रअणं) (पारिजात); निज - your own. 1646. Prof. M. V. Patwardhan remarks :
"Porcasia-ruocthac is all right. Yes, the adverbial phrase furcacia Rruta is to be construed with णिमिअं (= न्यस्तम्).
सौभाग्यगुणानाम् अग्रभूम्यां पदं न्यस्तम् - set her foot on the pinnacle of the qualities that constitute a woman's good fortune (attractiveness in relation to her husband)." This stanza is the same as ŚP S. No.(1250.272) above. SK (p. 678, v. 350) cites this stanza with the introductory words: कथाव्यापिनी नायिका यथा -.
1647. विश्वासोपजनो विनम्भोत्पत्ति: । यथा -
विस्रम्भ = विश्वास = confidence; उपजन = उत्पत्ति = production, generation. For explanation of this verse, vide the Extract from the Sanskrit Commentary in Appendix I.
1648-1649. पुरस्त्रीसंभ्रमो नागरिका-क्षोभः । यथा -
नागरिका - excitement and flurry of city-women folk.
1648. रहस - रभस - flurry, nervous hurry, haste or excitement..
1649. This gāthā is somewhat corrupt. Tentatively, it may be restored as follows:
सोवाणक्कमणसमूससंत मज्जक्कवास (? मज्जग्गवास) मारुहइ । कामवस-विहट्टत-वलयाइओ कामिणीसत्थो । (सोपानक्रमणसमुच्छ्वसन्मद्यकवासमारोहति । कामवशविघटमानवलयायित: कामिनीसार्थ: ।1) Translation : The gay women breaking their circle, on account of the passion of love, sighing deeply on account of climbing the staircase, ascend the liquorhall.
Prof. M. V. Patwardhan remarks: The original reading Huuleh may stand for मद्यार्क - liquor obtained as essence extracted from a fermented liquid such as sugarcane juice. But such a sense is not found recorded in Apte's Sanskrit - English Dictionary under अर्क, or under मद्य, though in Marathi the word मद्यार्क is often found used ----. In quarter three I think we must amend 'वलइ into 'वलअअं' being an adjectival बहुव्रीहि compound. (कामवशेन विघटमानानि वलयानि यथा स्युः
