अर्हत् अरिष्टनेमि से सत्य जानकर देवकी घर आई और उदास होकर सोचने लगी-वे माताएँ धन्य हैं, भाग्यशालिनी हैं, जो अपने शिशु को अपने हाथ से खिलाती हैं, अँगुली पकड़कर चलाती हैं और गोद में लेकर उसका दुलार करती हैं, उसे दूध पिलाती हैं और बार-बार अपने शिशुओं के साथ तोतली बोली बोलती हैं। मैंने सात पुत्रों को जन्म दिया, परन्तु एक की भी वाल-लीला नहीं देखी। यह श्रीकृष्ण वासुदेव भी तो छह-छह महीने से कुछ। क्षण के लिए ही सूरत दिखाने आता है।
देवकी इन विचारों में खोई है, तभी श्रीकृष्ण वासुदेव उनकी चरण-वन्दना करने आते हैं। देवकी माता को उदास और अन्यमनस्क देखकर श्रीकृष्णा कारण पूछते हैं।
