सूर्य के समान (लाल) रक्त कान्ति वाले सर्वजन-नयनाभिराम, सुकुमाल परिपूर्ण इन्द्रियों वाले, सौम्य आकार वाले गजतालु के समान लाल एवं कोमल रूपवान पुत्र को जन्म दिया । गजस्कमाल के जन्म का वर्णन मेघकुमार के समान समझना चाहिए। (यावत) नामकरण के समय माता-पिता ने सोचा-"क्योंकि हमारा यह बालक गजतालु के समान सुकोमल एवं सुन्दर है । इसलिए हमारे इस बालक का नाम 'गजसुकुमाल" हो ।" इस प्रकार विचार कर बालक के माता-पिता ने उसका नाम “गजसुकुमाल" रखा । शेष वर्णन मेघकुमार के समान समझना चाहिए । इस प्रकार क्रमश: गजसुकुमाल युवावस्था को
प्राप्त कर भोग-समर्थ हो गया । Maxim 21 :
..Thereafter, on completion of nine month's pregnancy
period, Devaki Devī gave birth to a son, having the beauty of a jasumina-flower, red Bandhujīvaka flower, of lacpigment, best Parijataka flower, red like rising sun, eyesoothing to all persons, tender, with all developed senses, good shapeliness and tendu like an elephant's palate. The description of Gaja Sukumāla (name of newly born son of Devaki) should be known as of Megha Kumāra. (until) At the time of giving name, parents thought that our this child is tender and beautiful like an elephant's palate, so its name should be Gaja Sukumāla. Thinking thus the parents of the child gave him the name Gaja Sukumāla. Remaining description should be known like Megha Kumāra. In this way gradually Gaja Sukumāla became young and capable to enjoy worldly entertainments and rejoicings, pleasures.
विवेचन
•जा सुमणा-(जपा-सुमण) लाल वर्ण के फूल, अडहुल का फूल ।
• रत्त बंधुजीवक-दुपहरिया का पौधा । बरसात में इस पर लाल रंग के फूल खिलते हैं । लोक भाषा में इसे वीर बहूटी या इन्द्रगोप भी कहते हैं ।
