विवेचन
मुक्तावली शब्द का अर्थ है-मोतियों का हार । जिस प्रकार मोतियों का हार वनाते समय उन मोतियों की स्थापना की जाती है, उसी प्रकार जिस तप में उपवासों की स्थापना की जाए उस तप को मुक्तावली तप कहते हैं । स्पष्टता हेतु चित्र देखिये ।

Elucidation
The word Muktārali means necklace of pearls. As pearls are established while preparing a necklace, in the same way fasts are established in this penance. So it is called Muktārali penance.
