कि देव, असुर, यक्ष, राक्षस अदि भी उन्हें निर्ग्रन्थ प्रवचन से विचलित नहीं कर सकते थे। उन्हें । निर्ग्रन्थ प्रवचन में शंका, कांक्षा, विचिकित्सा (फल में सन्देह) नहीं थी । उन्होंने शास्त्र के परमार्थ को समझ लिया था । वे शास्त्र का अर्थ-रहस्य निश्चित रूप से धारण किए हुए थे। उन्होंने शास्त्र के सन्देहजनक स्थलों को ज्ञानियों से पूछकर उनका विशेष रूप से निर्णय कर लिया था । उनकी हड्डियाँ और मज्जा सर्वज्ञ देव के धर्म-अनुराग से अनुरक्त हो रही थीं । निर्ग्रन्थ प्रवचन पर उनका अटूट प्रेम। था । उनकी ऐसी श्रद्धा थी कि-आयुष्मन् ! यह निर्ग्रन्थ प्रवचन ही सत्य है, परमार्थ है, परम सत्य है, अन्य सब अनर्थ (असत्यरूप) हैं। उनकी उदारता के कारण उनके भवन के दरवाजे की अर्गला! ऊँची रहती थी, अर्थात् द्वार सबके लिये खुला रहता था । वे जिसके घर में या अन्तःपुर में जाते उसमें प्रीति एवं विश्वास उत्पन्न किया करते थे । वे शीलव्रत (पाँचों अणुव्रत), गुणव्रत, विरमण (रागादि से निवृत्ति), प्रत्याख्यान, पौषध, उपवास आदि का पालन करते तथा चतुर्दशी, अष्टमी, अमावस्या और पूर्णिमा के दिन परिपूर्ण पौषधव्रत किया करते थे । श्रमणों निर्ग्रन्थों को निर्दोष अशन, पान, खादिम और स्वादिम आहार, वस्त्र, पात्र, कम्बल, रजोहरण, पीठ, फलक, शय्या, संस्तारक,
औषध और भेषज आदि का दान करते हुए महान् लाभ प्राप्त करते थे, तथा स्वीकार किये तप-कर्म के द्वारा अपनी आत्मा को भावित-वासित करते हुए विचरण कर रहे थे ।
Elucidation
In the introduction of Sudarsana words are given in original text abhigaye ji vājīve java viharai. By these words should be understood the life and conduct of house-holders as described in Bhagawati Sūtra (2/5). The special religious faculties are to be considered deeply. These are as follows and Sudarśana Sresthi was opulent with all these qualities.
He was worshipper of sages and religious, virtuous house-holder. Beside the knower of soul and non-soul he was also well versed in conception of merits and demerits. In the same way, he was conversant about influx of karmas, checking of karmas, shedding off karmas, activities (causes of bondage of
nas-twentyfive types of activities), supports (means of karma-bondage) and the concept of bondage of karmas and salvation. He did not seek assistance of any other in any work. He was so firmly steady in Jain doctrines (Nirgrantha
cana-preachings of tirthamkaras) that even gods, semigods, deities. demons etc., could not distract him. He had neither doubt nor desire and no suspense about the fruits of religion and religious activities. He had grasped the ultimte meaning of holy scriptures. He had retained the secret meanings of scriptures in a definite way. He had specially decided the suspicious points of
