________________
Sumatiharsa here lists his previous commentaries as being on the Sripatipaddhati (no. II), the Mahadevi composed by Mahadeva in 1316, the Vivahapaṭala of Brahmarka (no I), and the Bṛhatparvamālā composed by Purusottama before 1490. It is regrettable that two of these four are no longer in existence. He then states that he completed the Karika at Kherava on 21 February 1621 during the reign of Viṣṇudāsa Nṛpati, a ruler of whom I have so far succeeded in discovering no other trace. Sumatiharṣa himself here assumes the title Samanta or feudatory. Finally, he claims to have written this țikä upon the insistence of Ratna, a relative of his guru, Harṣaratna, and of Dhanaraja, whom we will discuss later. The colophon to the Karika names Harṣaratna's guru Mahopadhyaya Udayaraja Gani; this information is also given in the colophon of the next work.
In the text itself Sumatiharșa uses as his example the horoscope of an individual born on 7 May 1535 and his fifty-ninth anniversary horoscope, dated 7 May 1594.

IV. The Gaṇakakumudakaumudi, a commentary on the Karanakutuhala composed by Bhaskara in 1183.3 This is the only work of Sumatiharṣa's to have been printed; the edition by Madhava Šastri Purohita was published at Bombay in 1901. I have also consulted the two Harvard manuscripts, Sanskrit 37 and 1105. The eighth introductory verse is :

This adds to the previously known commentaries on the Sripatipaddhati, the Vivahapatala, the Mahā devi (śighrakhagasiddhi), the Bṛhatparvamālā, and the Tājikasāra, one on the Jātakapaddhati of Kesava: as is the case with so many other of Sumatiharṣa's works no manuscript of this one is presently available.
At the end of the țika are the following verses:
