अथ द्वितीयः सारस्वतोऽनुवाकः । अनुवाकः २ । सूक्तम् १ | ऋचः १-१२ | वाक् ।
प्रथमं वाक्सूक्तम् । वाचं देवीं द्वादश, दैवरातो वैश्वामित्रः, वाक् , अनुष्टुप् |
THE RSHI IS DAIVARĀTA Now this the Second Section (Anuvaka) concerns Sarasvati ' Section II : Hymn 1: Riks 1-12-VAK
I Hymn is on Vak. This Hymn beginning with vacham devim' contains twelve Rks. Daivarāta Vaisvāmitra is the Rshi, Vāk is the goddess, Anushtup is the metre.
अथ प्रथमा ऋक् । वाच दे॒वीमृतवतीमर्नु ब्रवीमि मनसा
या देवी ब्रह्मणस्पतेरेकपदी या बृहती ॥ १ ॥ पदपाठः- वाच । देवीं । ऋतऽवतीं । अनु । ब्रवीमि । मनसा ।
या । देवी । ब्रह्मणः । पतेः । एकऽपदी । या । बृहती ।।
The goddess Våk is truthful and I speak of her with all my mind. She is the one indivisible, unmanifested and infinite power of Brahma
अन्वयभाष्यम् । या देवी ब्रह्मणस्पतेः कार्यकारणसम्बन्धात्, या एकपदी नानात्वहीना, बृहती अखण्डा अव्यक्तमानसशद्वरूपत्वात् , तां ममसा क; आविष्कृतां इति अध्याह्रियते तृतीयासामर्थ्यात् , अत एव ऋतवीं वाचं देवीं अनु ब्रवीमि, न मनसि एकं वचसि एकं ममेति ||
COMMENTARY_SUMMARY TRANSLATION The goddess or power of Brahmanaspati is related to him as cause ( Brahmanaspati) and effect (Vak). She has no plurality and therefore
Ekapadi ( of one single form). She is Brhati, is infinite: as Vak or manifested word, she can be heard only by the mind. Here manasă means by mental power. This means that speech when manifested by mental power is perceived as the word. I express in words what is mentally truthful. The gist is that there is perfect coordination between mind and speech.
