COMMENTARY-SUMMARY TRANSLATION Oh Sarasvati ! being associated with the metres Gayatri and others, you are metre itself. You are full of song, being yourself one with Sāma. You are full of brilliance, being one with it. You follow the light of knowledge and you compose and utter metres. Likewise, following the metres, you express through them the light divine, though it is invisible. So, you who are the Vak, are certainly Brahma and the mother of all knowledge.
द्वितीया ऋक् । सरस्वति त्वं परो वेदः संविदा छन्दसा च ब्रह्मणा त्वं विश्ववेदाः ॥ वाचा वेदयसे ब्रह्मोत विश्व
वाग विदा वरं ब्रह्म संविदो योनिः ॥ २॥ पदपाठ :- सरस्वति । त्वम् । परः । वेदः । सम्ऽविदा ।
छन्दसा । च । ब्रह्मणा । त्वम् । विश्वऽवैदाः ॥ वाचा । वेदयंसे । ब्रह्म । उत । विश्वम् ।
वाक् । विदा । वरम् । ब्रह्म । सम्ऽविदः । योनिः ।। Oh Sarasvati ! on account of your deep knowledge you are the great Veda. On account of your handling of metres and your knowledge of Brahma, you are omniscient. You let us know the unseen Brahma through words and also give the knowledge of the universe which is seen. Oh Vāk, by your knowledge, you are Brahma and the very source of all knowledge.
अन्वयभाष्यम्। हे सरस्वति ! त्वं संविदा ज्ञानशक्त्या परः श्रेष्ठः वेदः वेदस्वरूपा छन्दसा गायत्रादिना तत्संहितेन ब्रह्मणा परमेण वस्तुना मन्त्रेण च त्वं वाग् देवतात्मा विश्ववेदाः सर्वज्ञा सर्वज्ञानसत्त्वपूर्णा असि, तस्मात् तया वाचा परोक्षं तद् ब्रह्मवस्तु वेदयसे बोधयसि, तथा विश्वं इदं प्रत्यक्षसिद्धं ज्ञापयसि, अतः हे वाक् ! सा त्वं विदा वरं वरणीयं श्रेष्ठं प्रत्यक्षं ब्रह्मैव सती सर्वस्याः अपि संविदः कारणभूता प्रभवसीति ॥
