छन्दोदर्शनम
द्वितीया ऋक् । यो वा ज्योतिषा तपस्यन् सहसाऽन्तः स्वमक्षरं मन्त्रमीमनु स्वरति ॥ य है स्वरेण विश्वमिदं समधमत्
परस्मात् पुरुषः स पूर्णः परमः ॥ पदपाठः – यः । वा । ज्योतिषा । तपस्यन् । सहसा । अन्तरिति ।
स्वम् । अक्षरम् । मन्त्रम् । ईम् इति । अनुं । स्वरति ॥ यः। ईम् इति । स्वरेणं । विश्वम् । इदम् । सम् । अधमत् । परस्मात् । पुरुषः । सः। पूर्णः । परमः ॥
While performing Tapas ( that is while concentrating ) intensely with the light within himself, he utters the letter — Im' as a mantra of his own. With the utterance of that syllable Im, he created this universe as though by blowing like a bellow. He, the Purusha, is supreme of supremes and is perfect and is the highest.
अन्वयभाष्यम्। य: पुरुषः अन्त: स्वात्मनि ज्योतिषा वैद्युतेन तपस्यन् सहसा बलेन स्वं निजं अक्षरं बीजात्मकं ई इति अनुकग्णरूपं मन्त्रं स्ववाचकं मननीयं वर्णं अनुसृत्य स्वरति अनुस्वारूपया सूक्ष्मतमया स्वरात्मिकया परया वाचा स्फुरति, यश्च पुन: ई इत्याकारण स्वरेण तेन ईङ्कारमन्त्राक्षरेण इदं विश्वं समधमत् , भ्रस्रयेव धमनत: उछासरूपेण बहिरुत्ससर्ज, सः परोक्षः नित्यसिद्धः परस्मादपि श्रेष्ठात् परमः श्रेष्ठतमः पूर्णः पुरुषः इति श्रुतिमुखादनु श्रूयते इति ॥
COMMENTARY-SUMMARY TRANSLATION
This Purusha, with the help of his own light, practices tapas, and utters his own seed-letter Im, which is Onomotopoeic. It is a mantra which has to be contemplated. He vibrates with the imperceptible Väk, the power of expression, which is very subtle and volatile in form. Again, with that syllable Im, he breathes out this universe, as though a blow-pipe. He is the imperceptible and eternal Purusha superior to all the best. He is perfect. This is evident from the Vedas.
