पशूनाम् । यः। द्विऽपाम् । चतुःऽपदाम् ।
इन्द्रम् । एव । तम् । वृणे । शम् । गमध्यै ।। He is the good lord of all immortals of the heavens, of the beings in mid-air and on the earth, and of all the creatures having two legs and four legs. I seek only Indra's grace for peace.
अन्वयभाष्यम् । यः इद्रः परमः पुरुषः सन् दिव्यानां द्युलोकसम्बन्धिनां अमृतानां देवानां आदित्यादीनां सत्पतिः सत्तमः अधिपतिः, यश्च अन्तरिक्ष्याणां ममत्प्रभृतीनां तथा पार्थिवानां पृथिवीस्थानानां अग्न्यादीनां च पतिः, तथा द्विपदां मानवादीनां चतुष्पदां गो-तुरङ्ग गजादीनां पशूनां सवषां प्राणिजातानां उत्तमः पतिः नित्यसिद्धः, तं परोक्षसिद्धं परमं सार्वभौमं इन्द्रमेव आत्मशान्त्यादिसुखं प्राप्तुं वृणे तदेकशरण्यतया समाश्रये इति ॥
COMMENTARY-SUMMARY TRANSLATION He is superior to and the good lord of all immortals in the sky, i.e., Aditya and others. He is the lord of all who inhabit the mid-air, i.e., Maruts etc.; and he is the lord of all who stay on the earth, i.e., Agni and others. He is the lord, likewise of two-legged creatures, i. e., human beings etc., and of four-legged ones, like the cow, the horse, the elephant etc., and of all other creatures. He is eternal. Him, who is beyond the reach of the senses, the supreme one; only him I resort to for happiness and internal peace.
तृतीया ऋक् । यो देवो देवानां देवतमः सन् यो मघो मघोनी मघवत्तमः ॥ यो वा रथी रथिनां रथितम
इन्द्रमेव तं वृणे शङ् गमध्यै ॥ ३ ॥ पदपाठः- यः । देवः । देवानाम् । देवऽतमः । सन् ।
यः । मघः । मघोनाम् । मघवत्ऽतमः ॥ यः । वा । रथी । रथिनाम् । राथिऽतमः ।
इन्द्रम् । एव । तम् । वृणे । शम् । गमध्य ॥ He is indeed, the god of gods, the highest one. He is riches itself, and the richest among the rich. He is the rider of chariots, the best among them. Only bim I seek to obtain peace and welfare.
