modify many of the views of Smith on the subject. It is clear from comparative studies that Dhavalā has specific position especially in the field of large numbers, super worldly numbers, infinite numbers and processes like S-S, Salāka-operation and others. Many of these processes seem to have gone historical, but they indicate the ingenuity of Jaina monk scholars. Though many studies have been done in this regard, however, they are partial and not complete. A complete study of Dhavalā mathematics is desirable in terms of modern terminology so that its contribution could be properly evaluated in the History of Mathematics.
