If he comes across bandits on the way he should not escape taking another path in order to save his clothes. Instead he should stand still in meditation getting free of any feelings of joy and remorse and dissociating himself from his body, clothes etc. This way he should move about from one village to another with discipline.
२४०. से भिक्खू वा २ गामाणुगामं दूइज्माणे अंतरा से विहं सिया, से जं पुण विहं जाणेज्जा - इमंसि खलु विहंसि बहवे आमोसगा वत्थपडियाए संपडिया गच्छेज्जा, णो तेसिं भीओ उम्मग्गेण गच्छेज्जा जाव गामाणुगामं दूइज्जेज्जा ।
२४०. ग्रामानुग्राम विहार करते हुए साधु-साध्वी को मार्ग में अटवी वाला लम्बा मार्ग आ जाये और अटवी पार करते समय मार्ग में बहुत से चोर वस्त्र छीनने के लिए इकट्ठे होकर आ जायें तो साधु उनसे डरता हुआ उन्मार्ग से न जाए अपितु देह और वस्त्रादि के प्रति अनासक्त यावत् समाधिभाव में स्थिर होकर संयमपूर्वक ग्रामानुग्राम विचरण करे ।
240. While wandering from village to village if he comes to a desolate area and while crossing that area he faces groups of bandits ready to snatch his clothes, out of fear he should not escape taking another path. Instead he should stand still in meditation getting free of any feelings of joy and remorse and dissociating himself from his body, clothes etc. This way he should move about from one village to another with discipline.
२४१. से भिक्खू वा २ गामाणुगामं दूइज्जमाणे अंतरा से आमोसगा संपडिया गच्छेज्जा, ते णं आमोसगा एवं वएज्जा आउसंतो समणा ! आहरेयं वत्थं, देहि, णिक्खिवाहि, जहा रियाए, णाणत्तं वत्थपडियाए ।
एयं खलु तस्स भिक्खुस्स वा २ सामग्गियं जं सया जज्जासि ।
- त्ति बेमि ।
॥ बीओ उद्देसओ सम्मत्तो ॥ || पंचमं अज्झयणं सम्मत्तं ॥
२४१. ग्रामानुग्राम विचरण करते हुए साधु-साध्वी के मार्ग में चोर इकट्ठे होकर वस्त्र हरण करने के लिए आ जाएँ और कहें कि “आयुष्मन् श्रमण ! यह वस्त्र लाओ,
