consequences. Before speaking, it is necessary to think about good or bad, favourable and unfavourable or advantageous or disadvantageous consequences. In Churni the interpretation is-One who first thinks with his pure and impartial mind and then speaks. In Tattvartha Sutra anuvichibhashan is interpreted as sin-free and faultless speech. A person blinded by anger, greed and fear also speaks incoherently or aimlessly in the agitated state of his mind. Therefore there are chances of his committing the fault of falsity. When frivolous, a man often resorts to lies. Otherwise also, making fun of someone may end up in a quarrel, hurting someone, telling lies, friction and other grave consequences. In Churni it is mentioned-In anger a person may fail to call his offspring, a son. A greedy person ignorant of right and wrong tells a lie. In fear a person calls an honest man a thief. ३९३. अहावरं तच्चं भंते ! महव्वयं 'पच्चइक्खामि सव्वं अदिण्णादाणं । से गामे वा नगरे वा अरण्णे वा अप्पं वा बहुं वा अणुं वा थूलं वा चित्तमंतं वा अचित्तमंतं वा व सयं अदिण्णं गेहेज्जा, णेवऽण्णेहिं अदिण्णं गेण्हावेज्जा, अण्णं पि अदिण्णं गेण्हतं ण समणजाणेज्जा जावज्जीवाए जाव वोसिरामि ।
३९३. हे भगवन् ! इसके पश्चात् अब मैं तृतीय महाव्रत स्वीकार करता हूँ। मैं सब प्रकार से अदत्तादान का प्रत्याख्यान (त्याग) करता हूँ। वह इस प्रकार है - वह ( ग्राह्य पदार्थ) चाहे गाँव में हो, नगर में हो, अरण्य में हो, स्वल्प हो या बहुत, सूक्ष्म हो या स्थूल ( छोटा हो या बड़ा), सचेतन हो या अचेतन; उसे न तो स्वयं ग्रहण करूँगा, न दूसरे से ग्रहण कराऊँगा और न ही अदत्त ग्रहण करने वाले का अनुमोदन - समर्थन करूँगा, यावज्जीवन तक, तीन करणों से तथा मन-वचन-काय, तीन योगों से यह प्रतिज्ञा करता हूँ। मैं पूर्वकृत अदत्तादान रूप पापों का प्रतिक्रमण करता हूँ, आत्म-निन्दा करता हूँ, गर्हा करता हूँ और अदत्तादान पाप का व्युत्सर्ग करता हूँ ।
