According to Churni the interpretation of the phrase "Tahappagarehim janehim hilitay' is-even in face of criticism, abuse and afflictions by lowly, uncivilized, perverse, destitute, rustic and other ignorant persons an ascetic remains unmoved like a mountain. रजत-शुद्धि का दृष्टान्त तथा कर्ममल-शुद्धि की प्रेरणा ४०३. उवेहमाणे कुसलेहिं संवसे, अकंतदुक्खा तस-थावरा दुही।
____ अलूसए सव्वसहे महामुणी, तहा हि से सुस्समणे समाहिए॥४॥ ४०३. परीषह एवं उपसर्गों को सहन करता हुआ अथवा माध्यस्थभावना का अवलम्बन करता हुआ वह मुनि अहिंसादि प्रयोग में कुशल-गीतार्थ मुनियों के साथ रहे। त्रस एवं स्थावर सभी प्राणियों को दुःख अप्रिय लगता है। अतः उन्हें दुःखी देखकर, किसी प्रकार का परिताप न देता हुआ पृथ्वी की भाँति सब प्रकार के परीषहोपसर्गों को सहन करने वाला महामुनि तीन लोक के स्वभाव का ज्ञाता होता है। इसी कारण उसे सुश्रमण श्रेष्ठ श्रमण कहा गया है॥४॥
SILVER THE SYMBOL OF PURITY ___403. Enduring afflictions and torments and having equanimous attitude that ascetic should live with wise sages accomplished in observing ahimsa (etc.). All beings, mobile or immobile dislike pain. Therefore, seeing their pain the great ascetic who does not cause any pain to any being and endures all afflictions like the earth becomes aware of the nature of all the three worlds. This is why he is called the best amongst ascetics. (4) ४०४. विऊ नए धम्मपयं अणुत्तरं, विणीयतण्हस्स मुणिस्स झायओ।
समाहियस्सऽग्गिसिहा व तेयसा, तवो य पण्णा य जसो य वड्ढइ ॥५॥ __ ४०४. क्षमा-मार्दव आदि दश प्रकार अनुत्तर (श्रेष्ठ) श्रमण धर्मपद में प्रवृत्ति करने वाला विद्वान् एवं विनीत मुनि तृष्णा से रहित होकर, धर्मध्यान में संलग्न और समाहितचारित्र-पालन में सावधान रहता है। ऐसे मुनि के तप, प्रज्ञा और यश अग्निशिखा के तेज की भाँति निरन्तर बढ़ते रहते हैं।
