वस्त्र उपहत-(खराब या विनष्ट) हो गया हो, तब लौटाने पर वस्त्र का स्वामी उसे वापस ग्रहण नहीं करे, लेकर दूसरे साधु को नहीं देवे; किसी को उधार भी नहीं देवे और न ही अदला-बदली करे तथा अन्य किसी के पास जाकर ऐसा भी नहीं कहे कि “आयुष्मन् श्रमण ! आप इस वस्त्र को ले लो।" उस दृढ़ वस्त्र के टुकड़े-टुकड़े करके परिष्ठापन भी नहीं करे-फेंके भी नहीं। किन्तु उस उपहत वस्त्र को वस्त्र का स्वामी उसी उपहत करने वाले साधु को दे; परन्तु स्वयं उसका उपभोग नहीं करे।
कोई साधु इस प्रकार का समाचार जानकर कि अमुक साधु अमुक साधु से कुछ समय के लिए वस्त्र माँगकर ले गया था, परन्तु वह वस्त्र खराब हो जाने पर उसने लिया नहीं, अपितु उसी को वापस दे दिया ऐसा सुनकर कोई विचार करे कि मैं भी मुहुर्त आदि का उद्देश्य कर प्रातिहारिक वस्त्र की याचना करके एक दिन यावत् पाँच दिन तक किसी ग्रामादि में निवास कर फिर वहाँ जाऊँगा तो वह वस्त्र उपयोग हो जाने से मेरा ही हो जायेगा। इस प्रकार के विचार से यदि साधु किसी से प्रातिहारिक वस्त्र ग्रहण करे तो उसे मायास्थान का स्पर्श होता है। अतः साधु ऐसा न करे। बहुत से साधुओं के सम्बन्ध में भी इसी तरह समझना चाहिए। BORROWING AND RETURNING DRESS
238. An ascetic borrows a cloth from some other ascetic for a short or long period but returns only after spending one, two, three, four or five days. During this period the cloth turns sloppy or damaged. In such case, when returned, the owner should not take it back, and not take and give it to another ascetic, loan it or exchange it. He should also not go to another ascetic and say—“Long lived Shraman ! Please take this cloth.” Neither should he cut it to pieces and throw. Instead, he should give it to the ascetic who borrowed it. In no case he should use it himself.
Some ascetic gave a cloth to some other ascetic for sometime and when returned did not take it back finding it to be damaged; instead, he gave it to the borrower for good. On getting this information if some ascetic thinks that he should also borrow a
