અધ્યાત્મતત્ત્વાલાક,

તપ નહિ કરવા વિષે આશ્ચય પ્રદર્શન—
લક્ષ્મીને ઉદ્દેશીને ( વેપારમાં ગ્રાહકેાની ધમાલ મચાણી હાય, તેવા વખતે) અથવા પોતાના માલિકની આજ્ઞાનુસાર ચાલતાં ક્ષુધા-તૃષા વગેરે સહન કરી લેવી પડે છે, જ્યારે આત્માન્નતિને માટે યથાશક્તિ પણ તપ કરવામાં આવતા નથી, આશ્ચર્ય ! ! ’—૩૧
तपश्चिकीर्षी जागरयति -
वदन्ति सन्तः, प्रतिपद्यते च दावाग्निकल्पो भव एष भीमः । विचित्ररूपास्ति च कर्मसृष्टिस्तद् भोगकीटीभवितुं न युक्तम् ॥३२॥

नानाविधस्वादुरसप्रपूर्ण भोज्योपभोगे प्रविधीयमाने । प्रपद्यते यद्यपवर्गलक्ष्मीर्भवे तदा को बत पर्यटन् स्यात् ॥ ३३ ॥

The wise declare, the truth is brought home to us that this phenomenal world is terrible like conflagration, and the results of the karmic forces pass comprehension; such being the case, it is not proper for a human being to be enjoying the worldly pleasures like worms.
Who will remain transmigrating from one life to another in this world if it is possible to attain heaven by feeding on varions sweet and flavoursome eatables ? ( 32–33 )
