चक्षुरिन्द्रिय- प्राणेन्द्रिय-जिह्वेन्द्रिय- स्पर्शेन्द्रिय- ( स्वरूप पुद्गल वाला होने से ) की अपेक्षा से 'पुद्गली'
कहलाता है, तथा स्वयं जीव की अपेक्षा 'पुद्गल' कहलाता है । इस कारण से हे गौतम! मैं कहता हूँ कि 5 जीव पुद्गली भी है और पुद्गल भी है।

[प्र. २ ] भगवन् ! किस कारण से आप ऐसा कहते हैं कि जीव पुद्गली भी है और पुद्गल भी है ?

[ उ. ] गौतम ! जैसे किसी पुरुष के पास छत्र हो उसे छत्री, दण्ड हो उसे दण्डी, घट होने से घटी,

has the sense organ of hearing (a form of matter), that of seeing, that of फ

a possessor of matter (pudgali) as well as matter (pudgal) ?

[ २ ] एवं जाव वेमाणिए । नवरं जस्स जइ इंदियाइं तस्स तइ वि भाणियव्वाइं ।
६०. [ प्र. १ ] भगवन् ! नैरयिक जीव पुद्गली है, अथवा पुद्गल है ?
[ उ. ] गौतम ! उपर्युक्त सूत्रानुसार यहाँ भी कथन करना चाहिए।
[ २ ] इसी प्रकार यावत् वैमानिक तक कहना चाहिए, किन्तु साथ ही, जिस जीव की जितनो इन्द्रियाँ हों, उसकी उतनी इन्द्रियाँ कहनी चाहिए।
