विनयपिटक' में बुद्ध यह उपदेश देते हुए पाये जाते हैं---"भिक्षुओ में कहता हूँ कि मछली तीन अवस्था में ग्राह्य है । पहिले यदि तुम उसे इम रूपमें न देखो, दूसरे यदि तुम उसे इस रूपमे न सुनो और तीसरे तुम्हारे चितमें इस प्रकारका सन्देह ही उत्पन्न न हो कि यह तुम्हारे लिए ही पकड़ी गई है।' महावग्ग में लिखा है कि- "नवदीक्षित एक मंत्रीने बारह सौ पचास भिक्षुओं सहित बुद्धको आमंत्रित किया और मांस परोसा संघने बुद्ध सहित उसे खाया ।" मुत्तनिपात में प्राणियोंकी हत्याको दोषपूर्ण बताते हुए मांस भक्षणको पाप नहीं

कहा
बाइबिल में हजरत मसीहने जहाँ अपने शैल प्रवचन में (Sermon on Mount ) “Thou shalt not kill" — 'तू प्राणिहत्या मत कर इस बात को सुबर्ण शिक्षा दी है वहीं बाइबिल में ईसामसीहको मारे गाँवको मछली खिलाते हुए पाते हैं ।

Then he took the five loaves and the two fishes and looking up to heaven he blessed them and broke and gave to the disciples to eat before the multitude.
