checking or arressting the advance (or progress) of formidable warriors. प्रतिभयाः भयङ्कराश्च ते भटाः। तेषां स्तम्भनेः अभिमुखमभियानस्य प्रतिबन्धैः। 'भयङ्करं प्रतिभयं रौद्रं तूग्रममी त्रिषु' इत्यमरः। भुवनविदिताम् - wellknown in the wholo world. भुवनेन तात्स्थ्यात्तन्निवासिभिर्जनैः विदितां ज्ञाताम् । 'विदितं ज्ञाते' इति विश्वलोचने । वीरक्षोणी - the land of warriors. zafat: - you should pass over.
Stanza 48- महीनिःस्पृहः - void of aspiration for kingdom (lit. the earth). मह्यां भूमौ निःस्पृहः स्पृहाविकलः । आशावशातीतः इत्यर्थः । विनष्टभूम्यभिलाषः इति भावः। प्रात्तराजर्षिवृत्तः - resorting to the mode of life of a great sage. राजर्षिः - a man of the Ksatriya. caste who, by his pious life and austere devotion, comes to be regarded as a sage. राजा ऋषिरिव राजर्षिः। प्रात्त - a past participal derived from प्र+ आ + दा by affixing the terimination क्त (त) to it. प्रात्तं परिगृहीतं राजर्षेः वृत्तं आचारः येन सः। · त्रिषु वृत्तं तु चरिते' इति विश्वलोचने । अभिमतरसाम् - giving pleasure that is desired for. अभिमतः अभीष्टः रसः शृारादिः आनन्दः वा यस्याः सा । ताम् । अभिमतं शङ्गारादिरसमानन्दं वाऽऽविर्भावयन्तीमित्यर्थः । रेवतीलोचनाङ्काम् - in the form of the eyes of Revati. रेवत्याः लोचने नयने रेवतीलोचने । ते एव अङ्कः लक्षणं यस्याः सा । ताम् । मन्मथीयां - of the god of love. हालाम् – liquor, wine. Here, the eyes of Revati, the wife of Balarama, are compared with liquor, for like liquor, Revati's eyes intoxicated Balarama by inspiring passion in his heart. ferar - renouncing, having given up. It is implied that Revati was. so beautiful that whenever she fell into the range of Balarama's eyesight, passion was excited in his heart. Balarama, though extremely attached to Revati, his beloved wife, owing to his being attracted by her beauty, had to give her up, when he had made bis mind to get. himself initiated into monkhood for getting rid of sin (i. e. Karman.) The words रेवतीलोचनाङ्को मन्मथीयां हालां हित्वा imply the abandonment
