introduction
CXXIII Sarasvatī at Srīsthala after the solar eclipse and the worship of the god of Rudramahālaya the lord of the gods. A village named Kamboika in the Modhera Ardhāshtama in the Sārasvata Mandala is given to the temple of Sri Mulanāthadeva in Mandali in the district of Vardhi (or Vadh ).
The writer of the grant is one Kanchana - a son of Kāyastha Jejja. It ends Srī Mūlarājasya. The grant was personally given by the king. The third copperplate ( which was published in the E. I. Vol. X) is dated V. S. 1051 Mágha sudi 15. Mūlarāja is called Paramabhattāraka Mahārājādhiraja Srī Mūlarāja Deva. The occasion is Lunar eclipse. A village named Varņaka in the district of Satyapura is given to Sri Dirghchărya son of Durlabhācharya, a learned Brahmana of Kanyakubja. The grant is written by Kāyastha Kanchana probably the same as the writer of the previous one. The Dūtaka is Mahattama Sri Sivarāja. The grant ends as usual with the signature of the king.
Hemachandra has described at length two main events of the life of king Mūlarāja: one – his fight with Grāharipu of Vāmanasthali and his powerful ally Laksha of Kachchha; the other-his fight against Dvarapa lord of Lāta. In the second fight, it was his son Chămunda who led the army against Laţa.
The name of Sri Mülaraja is mentioned in the verse 135 of the first canto of the Dvyāsraya, the preceding 131 verses being devoted to the description of Anahillapura - which is given in graphic detail - not all conventional. He is called Chālukyakulachandramā - the moon of the family of Chālukyas.
