Preface
The Arhat is rid of the four inimical (ghāti) karmas, and endowed with supreme qualities, like omniscience (kevalajñāna), besides appearance of thirty-four miraculous-happenings (atisaya).
The Liberated Souls (the Siddha) are rid of the eight kinds of karmas, and endowed with supreme eight qualities (guna). They stay eternally at the summit of the universe.
The Chief-Preceptors (Ācārya) practise the five-fold observance (ācāra) [in regard to faith (darśana), knowledge (jñāna), conduct (căritra), austerities (tapa), and power (virya)], subdue the five senses (indriya), are resolute (dhira), and are earnest (gambhira) in respect of their qualities (guna).
The Preceptors (Upadhyāya) are indomitable teachers of the substances of Reality as expounded by Lord Jina; they entertain no desires and are endowed with the Three Jewels (ratnatraya) of right-faith (samyagdarśana), right-knowledge (samyagjñāna) and right-conduct (samyakcăritra).
The Ascetics (Sadhu) are free from all (worldly) occupations, absorbed incessantly in four kinds darśana, jñāna, caritra and tapa of adoration, without-possessions (nirgrantha), and rid of delusion (moha).
The Real Repentance

The (pure) soul is not the mode (paryaya) of the infernal-being (nāraka), the plant-and-animal (tiryańca), the human (manusya), and the celestialbeing (deva). It is not in any soul-quest (märgaṇāsthāna), stage of spiritual development (guṇasthāna), or class of biological development (jīvasasthāna). It is not a child (bala), old (vṛddha), or young (taruna). It is not attachment (rāga), aversion (dueṣa), or delusion (moha). It is not anger (krodha), pride (māna), deceit (māyā) or greed (lobha).
It is not the cause of these. It is not the doer (kartā), the administrator (kārayitā), or the approver (anumodaka) of these.

On acquisition of the power-of-discernment - bheda-vijñāna - the soul adopts equanimity (madhyastha-bhāva, samya); the adoption of equanimity is (right) conduct (căritra).
