१. तेतलीपुर के राजा कनकरथ का अमात्य (मंत्री) था तेतलीपुत्र । पोट्टिला वहाँ के मूषिकारदारक नामक धनाढ्य सुनार की कन्या थी । पोट्टिला एक बार अपने महल की छत पर खड़ी खेल रही थी कि घोड़े पर चढ़े तेतलीपुत्र की उस पर नजर पड़ी। पोट्टिला को देखते ही वह उस पर मुग्ध हो गया।
२. फिर तेलीपुत्र पता लगाकर उसके पिता के घर पहुँचा । स्वर्णकार ने खूब धूमधाम से तेतलीपुत्र अमात्य के साथ पोट्टिला का विवाह कर दिया।

1. Tetaliputra was the minister of King Kanakrath of Tetalipur. Pottila was the daughter of a rich goldsmith named Mushikardarak. Once when Tetaliputra was passing along the house of the goldsmith he saw Pottila playing on the roof and was entranced by her beauty.
2. After making enquiries he arrived at the goldsmith's house and expressed the desire to marry Pottila. Mushikardarak agreed and married his daughter to Tetaliputra with all glitter and glory as well as plenty of dowry.
