कनककेतु राजा ने कालिक द्वीप में स्वच्छन्द विचरण करने वाले घोड़ों को पकड़ने के लिए अपने कुशल सेवकों को भेजा। सेवकों ने द्वीप के विशाल मैदान में तरह-तरह के सुगन्धित, स्वादिष्ट खाद्य पदार्थ, कोमल स्पर्श वाले गलीचे तथा सभी इन्द्रियों को लुभाने वाले पदार्थ चारों तरफ बिछा दिये तथा कर्मचारी छुपकर मधुर वीणा नाद करने लगे। कुछ लोग जाल व रस्सियाँ लेकर छुप गये।
घोड़े जब मैदान में आये और इन पदार्थों को देखा तो कुछ घोड़े इन पदार्थों के स्वाद व रूप-गंध आदि में लुब्ध होकर वहीं चरने लगे। सेवकों ने घोड़ों को अपने जाल में फँसा लिया। चाबुक आदि से प्रताड़ित कर अपने वाहनों के काम में लेने लगे। ___ जो कुछ घोड़े इन मधुर स्वादिष्ट-सुगन्धित पदार्थों के प्रति ललचाये नहीं वे पहले की तरह स्वच्छन्द स्वाधीन विचरते रहे।

King Kanak-ketu of Hastishirsh city ordered his experienced trappers to go to Kalik island to trap and bring some wild horses. These trappers spread around a variety of things to lure horses. These included perfumed things, tasty food, and soft carpets. Some trappers started playing alluring melodies on musical instruments and others hid themselves with nets and lariats in their hands.
When the herd of horses arrived there, many of them were attracted by these things and came near. The trappers caught them. These horses were tied with ropes, hit with whips and yoked to chariots. Wild horses lost their freedom.
Many others were not lured by the attractive things and kept there distance. They remained free grazing in their natural habitat.
