* same way (due to the ever present styanagriddhi-nidra or comatose
state) the life-activity of the earth-bodied beings is in a state akin to suspended animation or unconsciousness. But they are not devoid of inner awareness or consciousness.
In Bhagavati Sutra (19/35) it is mentioned-When a young and strong individual hits on the head of an old and emaciated person
with joined fists and injures him; the old man suffers a torturing huo agony. The earth-bodied beings suffer even more torturing agony
when they are afflicted. (see Illustration 4)
In Bhagavati Sutra details about respiration, pain, food, senses, ailments, progress and regress of earth-bodied beings have been
given. The modern geologists also accept that there are apparent or signs of development, decay, fatigue and extinction in earth,, mountains, rocks and other such things. The acceptance of continued
changes in the structure of earth is the sign of its being a living to entity.
१६. एत्थ सत्थं समारंभमाणस्स इच्चेते आरंभा अपरिण्णाता भवंति। एत्थ सत्थं असमारंभमाणस्स इच्चेते आरंभा परिण्णाता भवंति।
१७. तं परिण्णाय मेहावी णेव सयं पुढविसत्थं समारंभेज्जा, णेवऽण्णेहिं पुढविसत्थं समारंभावेज्जा, णेवऽण्णे पुढविसत्थं समारंभंते समणुजाणेज्जा।
१८. जस्सेते पुढवि-कम्म-समारंभा परिण्णाता भवंति से हु मुणी परिण्णायकम्मे। त्ति बेमि।
॥ बीओ उद्देसओ सम्मत्तो ॥ १६. जो पृथ्वीकायिक जीवों पर शस्त्र का समारंभ (उनकी हिंसा) करते हैं, वे इन * आरंभों (हिंसा-सम्बन्धी प्रवृत्तियों के कटु परिणामों व जीवों की वेदना) से अनजान हैं। " जो पृथ्वीकायिक जीवों पर शस्त्र का समारंभ नहीं करते, वे (वास्तव में इन) आरंभों
के ज्ञाता हैं (और वे ही इनसे मुक्त होते हैं।)
१७. अतः पृथ्वीकायिक जीवों की अव्यक्त वेदना को जानकर (बुद्धिमान् मनुष्य) न तो स्वयं पृथ्वीकाय का समारंभ करे, न दूसरों से उसका समारंभ करवाए और न समारंभ करने वाले दूसरों का अनुमोदन करे। शस्त्र परिज्ञा : प्रथम अध्ययन
