refused by the ascetic). (In this agitated state of mind) The householder torments the ascetic; driven by anger he comes and beats the ascetic himself; or instructs his servants to beat him (the ascetic who made him waste his money) with a stick, wound him, cut off his limbs and other parts of his body, reduce him to ashes, cook his flesh, deprive him of his clothes and other possessions, tear him apart with nails, snatch all he has, subjugate him and torture him in various ways. When faced with such torments the ascetic should tolerate them with equanimity.
Or, if that self-disciplined ascetic finds them (the householders who have prepared food) receptive, he should gradually inform them, with true awareness, about his lofty conduct and code of alms. Or, if they are not receptive (or the ascetic does not have ability to explain), he should maintain his discipline of speech and remain silent. The sagacious acharyas have said so.
विवेचन - अकल्पनीय आहार आदि के विषय में इस उद्देशक में तीन विकल्प बताये गये हैं
( १ ) भिक्षु को देखकर कोई भावुक हृदय भक्त उनके लिए आहार आदि बनवाकर मोल लेकर, छीनकर, घर से लाकर देने का प्रस्ताव करे, उनके लिए उपाश्रय आदि बनवाने का प्रस्ताव रखे, तो मुनि उसे मधुर वचनों से तथा भद्र हृदय से यह कहे कि ऐसा आहार आदि मेरे लिए कल्पनीय नहीं है ।
(२) कोई भक्त हृदय मुनि से पूछे बिना ही उनके लिए उक्त अशन, पानादि तैयार करे और मुनि को किसी प्रकार पता चल जाये कि यह सब अकल्पनीय आहार आदि मेरे लिए बने हैं तो वह उस गृहस्थ को मधुर वचनों के साथ समझा दे कि तुम्हारा यह कृत्य मेरे लिए कल्पनीय नहीं है, मैं स्वीकार नहीं करता ।
(३) कोई गृहस्थ मुनि को बिना कहे किसी लालचवश या प्रत्याशा से मुनि के निमित्त अशन, पानादि आरम्भ-समारम्भ करें और उसके निमंत्रण देने पर मुनि उसे अस्वीकार कर दे। तब वह कुपित हो जाय तब स्वयं अथवा अपने कर्मचारियों से मुनि को कष्ट दे, पीड़ा आदि पहुँचाये तो मुनि उन कष्टों, परीषहों को धीरतापूर्वक सहन करे। पहले तो उनको अपनी आचार मर्यादा समझाये, वे समझ जायें तो ठीक, यदि वे नहीं समझें अथवा मुनि उनको समझाने में सफल न रहा हो तो वह उस स्थिति में मौन धारण कर ले। परन्तु अकल्पनीय का सेवन न करे।
