१. चंपानगरी निवासी माकन्दी - पुत्र जिनपालित एवं जिनरक्षित बारहवीं बार समुद्र -यात्रा करते हुए लवणसमुद्र में अनेक योजन दूर चले गये। अचानक समुद्र में भीषण तूफान आया । नाव एक समुद्री पर्वत से टकराकर टूट गई ।
२. दोनों भाई तैरते हुए रत्नद्वीप के तट पर पहुँचे। वहाँ विश्राम कर रहे थे, तभी रत्नद्वीप की देवी वहाँ आई । अनेक प्रकार का प्रलोभन तथा भय दिखाकर वह उन्हें अपने महलों में ले गई।
३. एक बार माकन्दी - पुत्र पूर्व-पश्चिम दिशा के उद्यानों में घूमते हुए दक्षिणदिशा के भयानक वनखण्ड में पहुँच गये। वहाँ एक विशाल वधस्थल दिखाई दिया जहाँ चारों ओर हड्डियों के ढेर ( नर कंकाल ) पड़े थे। वहाँ सूली पर लटका एक पुरुष दिखाई देने पर भयभीत हुए माकन्दी - पुत्रों ने उससे पूछा - "तुम कौन हो ? तुम्हारी यह दुर्दशा किसने की ?” ( नवम अध्ययन )
THE SEA VOYAGE: THE GODDESS OF RATNADVEEP

1. Jinapalit and Jinarakshit, the sons of Makandi of Champa, set out on their twelfth sea voyage. When they went hundreds of Yojans on the sea their ship was caught in a storm and capsized.
2. The two brothers drifted to an island named Ratnadveep. While they were taking rest the evil goddess of Ratnadveep arrived there. Using a variety of allurements and fear she took them to her palace.
3. Once the sons of Makandi went into the three gardens they were allowed to visit. Later they proceeded towards the southern garden. They arrived at a large and stinking execution ground littered with heaps of skeletons. There they saw a person on a gibbet. Terrified, the sons of Makandi inquired about him and his desperate condition.
