Khadya-- All that is chewed or nibbled. Kharapatika - खारपटिक - The sect of kharapatikas now extinct, believed that the soul was imprisoned in the body, just like a light covered by a pot. When the pot is broken, the light becomes free and spreads out in all directions. The body being destroyed the soul would be free. This doctrine was inculcated by wicked priests in order to get rid of their votaries who stayed with them and whose belongings were on their death likely to come into possession of the priests. Much crime was once committed in the name of religion and the unsuspecting credulity of ignorant people was exploited by criminal Sophists.
