This horizontal pole is supported in its middle on a vertical prop and its end to which the water-bucket is attached bends down into the well to collect water and is then raised up from the well, by pulling down the other end. The word in the commentary (यस्या ढेकुली इति कथ्यते । We should read यस्याग्रं in place of यस्याग्रे), stands for fe in the Punjabi langurge. Cf. the expression वरण्डलम्बुक used in मृच्छकटिक I, प्रस्तावना.
