The idea seems to be that the weighing balance, used by a grocer for measuring out sugar and similar other substances, is lettered i.e. is accompanied by markings of the numbers 1, 2, 3, etc. to show the weight of the substance weighed in the balance. सबखर a) also means literate, educated, cultured. fara far: unlettered, not having the numbers 1, 2, 3 etc. embossed upon it. =, a piece or lump of gold.
