________________ समीचीन-धर्मशास्त्र Jainism. Thus Samantabhadra is an ardent religious leader, a poet, a logician and a bencfactor of the suffering humanity. Samantabhadra's works are few in number and short in extent, but they possess such powerful seeds that not only they could attract great authors like Akalanka and Vidyananda but also grew in their hands into mighty banyan trees which are the veritable wealth and strength of Indian Nyaya literature. Among the available works of Samantabhadra, the Aptamimansa (or Devagama-stotra), Yuktyanu-sasana, Svayambhu-stotra and Stutividya are hymnal in character, but the first two are cffective treatises on logic and dialectics. This mode of embodying a logical trcatise apparently in a devotional hymn was first experimented by Samantabhadra and therefore he is rightly called the First Stutikara by Malayagiri, This experiment proved so successful that it was further adopted by authors like Siddhasena and Hemachandra on a more extensive and purposeful scale. The logical Stutis of Samantabhadra are so effective and pregnant with meaning that grcat authors like Akalanka, Vidyananda and Yasovijaya went on elaborating their expositions
