[आत्मा] क्योंकि आत्मा तो [स्वकं भावं मुक्त्वा ] अपने भाव को छोड़कर [अन्यत् किंचिद् अपि] 3729 de EU 21 [ 7: alfa] Fell of sati If the karmas are the doer (karta) of dispositions (bhava) in the soul (jiva) then the soul (jiva) must be the doer (karta) of the karmas. How can this be possible? The soul (jiva) is not the doer of anything other than its own dispositions (bhava). EXPLANATORY NOTE A doubt is raised in this verse. If the karmas are the doer (karta) of the dispositions (bhava), like rising (audayika), in the soul (jiva), then the soul (jiva) is not the doer (karta) of such dispositions (bhava). But the soul (jiva) as the non-doer (akarta) is not acceptable. So the soul (jiva) should be accepted as the doer (karta) of the material-karmas (dravyakarma). But this, again, is not possible as the soul (jiva) is not the doer (karta) of anything other than its own dispositions (bhava). As explained in the next verse, the dispositions (bhava) in the soul (jiva) are the instrumental-cause (nimitta karana) of the materialkarmas (dravyakarma). 124
