The Omniscient Lords have expounded that the disposition (bhava) that causes the influx (asrava) of either merit (punya) or demerit (papa), makes the soul (jiva) 'paracaritra', i.e., with conduct (caritra) based on the others. EXPLANATORY NOTE Certainly, the soul (jiva) when tinged with auspicious (subha) disposition (bhava) has the influx of merit (punya), and when tinged with inauspicious (asubha) disposition (bhava), of demerit (papa). The disposition (bhava) that is the cause of the influx of merit (punya) or demerit (papa) makes the soul (jiva) 'paracaritra', i.e., with conduct (caritra) based on the others. This has been said by the Omniscient Lords. The inference is that the conduct (caritra) based on the others - paracaritra - is the path to bondage (bandha), not to liberation. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 299
