________________ Pancastikaya-samgraha एकेन्द्रिय में जीव होने का दृष्टान्त - The one-sensed (ekendriya) are living-beings (jiva) - अंडेसु पवड्ढता गब्भत्था माणुसा य मुच्छगया / जारिसया तारिसया जीवा एगेंदिया णेया // 113 // अंडेषु प्रवर्धमाना गर्भस्था मानुषाश्च मूर्छा गताः / यादृशास्तादृशा जीवा एकेन्द्रिया ज्ञेयाः // 113 // अन्वयार्थ - [अंडेषु प्रवर्धमानाः] अंडे में वृद्धि पाने वाले प्राणी, [गर्भस्थाः ] गर्भ में रहे हुए प्राणी [च ] और [ मूर्छा गताः मानुषाः] मूर्छा प्राप्त मनुष्य [यादृशाः] जैसे (बुद्धिपूर्वक व्यापार रहित होते हुये भी) जीव हैं, [ तादृशाः ] वैसे ही [ एकेन्द्रियाः जीवाः ] एकेन्द्रिय भी जीव [ ज्ञेयाः] जानना। Just as those that are developing in the egg, or growing in the uterus, or the man in a trance, although not able to use their mind, nevertheless, are living-beings, similarly, know that the one-sensed (ekendriya) beings, too, are souls (jiva). EXPLANATORY NOTE This verse expounds that the one-sensed (ekendriya) beings have consciousness (cetana) and, therefore, are souls (jiva). The livingbeings, that are developing in the egg, or growing in the uterus, or even a stupefied man, do not have discretion. Still, these exhibit consciousness (cetana). Same is the case with the one-sensed (ekendriya) beings; these do not have discretion but exhibit consciousness (cetana). . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 218
