________________ 1 FOREWORD It affords me immense pleasure to place before those interested in the Jain canon the critical edition of the second part of the Anuyogadvarasutra accompanied by three commentaries also critically edited viz. Jinadasagani-Mahattara's Curni, Acaryas ri-Haribhadrašuri's short Vivrti, and Maladhari s'ri-Hemacandrasuri's extensive Vrtti. The text of the Anuyogadvārasutra used here was critically edited by the late Rev. Muniraja Shri Punyavijayajt Māhāraja with the cooperation of Pandits Dalsukhbhai Malavṇi ya and Amrtlal Mohanlal Bhojak. This was published in 1968 as the first volume of the Jaina-Agama-Series acompanied by a number of useful appendices. The description of the manuscripts used to establish the edition is reprinted in the Appendix I of the first part. The commentaries had also been published before; Jindasagani's Cūrṇi and Haribhadrasuri's Vivrti (both edited by Acarya Sagara nandasūrijf) were printed in Ratlam by the Shri Rṣabhadevaji Kesartmalaji Shvetambarasamsthā in samvat 1984 (1928 EC); Maladhari Hemacandrasuri's Vrtti was published from Surat by the Shresthi-Devachandra-Lalabhat Fund (2v., 1915-16) and from Patan by the Kesarabat Jñanamandira, in samvat 1995, etc. The text of the three commentaries presented here has been critically edited from many old palm-leaf manusripts obtained from the Jain libraries in Jaisalmer, Patan and Cambay. These are described in the footnotes at the beginning of the commentaries, while the variant readings are given in the foot-notes here in this second part. The three commentaries have been printed together to demonstrate the development in the presentation of the meaning and to facilitate comparision between the commentaries in the hope that this will help readers to understand the meaning very clearly. The Anuyogadvārsūtra has four divisions; Upakrama (with six sub-divisions), nikṣepa, anugama and naya. The protion of the upakarma division up to the nāma sub-division has been given in the first part, the remaining protion has been given in this second and final part. In editing these works I have been very much helped by my disciples and especially by Sadhvfjt Jindedraprabhas rtjt who is a grand-disciple of my late mother Sadhvtjt Manoharas rtjt Mahārāja. I am also very much grateful to all those who have helped me in various ways in this task. Maha Sudi 8, Samvat 2056. 13 February 2000 Haridwar. (U.P.) 249410.
