When it does not exist at all, it could be an argument against a particular way and when it does exist, it has a limited but weig. hty authority which it would be unwise to disregard. The Nirukta and the commentary of Durga, the Bphaddevatā, the Purāņas all throw light on this hymn and I believe, it would be much safer to walk in this light than to grope in sheer darkness.
