Smt. Neelanjana S. Shah beings). Šākaļāyana 27 Maitreyarakṣita28 and Sāyaṇa29 agree with Dhaga. pala, In the case of assigning the meaning to this root, Dhanapala seems to have followed the worthy tradition of Candra School of Sanskrit Grammar. 229. Takş-All authors and commentators of various Dhātupāthas agree in giving 'vacana' as meaning of this root. There is dispute regarding the meaning of 'tvacana', whether to explain it as 'tvaggrahaņa' or 'amvarana' Out of these two, Dhanapala prefers the latter, perhaps, because Durga80 favours it.
The author of Puruşakara31 also seems to be in favour of this meaning, His arguments run thus :- 'samvarana', as the meaning of 'tvacana' is antaranga, because Pă. Dhātupātha has stated 'vaca samvarane,' The other meaning 'tvaggrahanarūpa' 'is krdvęttisiddha' and therefore bahiranga' as it is derived on the basis of Ast 3-1-25. 2.2.20 śubh– Pā. Dhātupātha furnishes the meaning 'bhāṣaṇe bimśayāmi. tyanye' for this root. Dhanapala32 alongwith Durga replaces 'bhāsane' instead of bbāşane.' As has been pointed out by Dr. Pulsule.33 bhäsane' seems to be the correct reading and due to the confusion of sibilants, bhāzane' was adopted by Ksirasvāmi, Hemacaadra and others. 2.31. Gaņa VI :
Śadir- This root is read both in Ganas I and VI, Dhanapala 84 agrees with Pa. Dhalupātha in noticing this root with the meanings 'visaran agatyavasådapeşu' in both Gaņas. Sākațāyana36 and Hemacandra88 take tudadi 'sadir' to mean “avasādana' only. While Maitreyarakṣita87 attests the mean. ing 'visarana' to this root. 23:2. Gaņa VII :
Věji - Dhanapala and śākațāyana38 are the only Grammarians who furnish the meaning 'varana' for this root insted of 'varjana'. Ksırasvāmi, Maitreyarakṣita and Sayaņa read 'vrji varjane'.
