Aboui a Forgotten Grammarian Dhanapala . 69 2.4.1. Gaņa IX :
Dr.-In the case of this root also, Dhanapala and Sakatayana 30 differ from all other grammarians, as they assign the meaning bhaya' to this root instead of "vidārana,' Hemacandra 40 while stating drs' vidāraņe' notes bhaye' ityanye’. Daśapadyuņādivștti41 reads dp bhaye (kryadi).' 2.5.1. Gaņa X:
Krp-Pa, Dhatupatha gives the sutras 'bhuvo avakalkane' and 'krpesca.' The question regarding the exact meaning of 'kịp' has puzzled the grammarians. Dhanapala42 wbile trying to elucidate it states 'krpestādarthye' and supplies 'avakalpayati' as the illustration. The author of Puruşakara 43 explains it as follows:- here according to Dhanapāla «krp', denotes the same meaning i. e avakalpana' as denoted by the preceding root bhu'.
Almost all commentators on various Dhatupāthas assign one meaning to both these roots,44 Only Kşırasvāmi 45 provides different illustrations for -bhu' and krp' and assigns separate meanings to the roots. Maitreyarakṣita, the author of Puruşakāra and Sayaņa agree with the interpretation of Dhanapala,
2.5.2. Cat-sphut-ghat-Dhanapala46 assigns the meaning 'bhedane' to 'ca!' 'spbut' and samghata to 'ghat'. He further states that these roots take causal, when they denote the above mentioned meanings. Dbanapāla does not connect the succeeding Dhātusūtra hantyarthāśca' with these dhātusūtras. He seems to take it independently as Kşīrasvāmi.47 Of course Kșīrasvāmi assigns the meaning 'bhedane' to 'ghať also, śākața yana48 does not assign separate meanings to this roots, he simply states "cața-sphuţa--ghata ca hantyarthah.' 2.5.3. Tany--In the case of this root, Dhanapala's opinion is inferred by Pandit Yudhisthira Mimāmsaka 40 on the analogy of S'ākatāyan's Dhātu.
