को भविष्य का फलाफल भी बताते थे। भोजन का निमन्त्रण ये स्वीकार नहीं करते थे। विधिपूर्वक नगर में कोई सभ्य उन्हें भोजन दान देता तो उसे ये ग्रहण कर लेते थे । युनानी लेखकों के इस वर्णन से उस समय के दिगम्बर जैन मुनियों का महत्व स्पष्ट हो जाता है। उनके द्वारा भारत का नाम विदेशों में भी चमका था ! भला उन जैसे मुनीश्वरों को पाकर कौन न अपने को धन्य मानेगा ?

अन्तिम मोर्य सम्राट् बृहद्रथ का उनके सेनापति पुष्पमित्र सुग ने वध कर दिया था। इस प्रकार मौर्य साम्राज्य का अन्त करके पूष्पमित्र ने 'सुगवंश की स्थापना की थी। नन्द और मौर्य साम्राज्य में जहां जैन और बौद्धधर्म उन्नति को प्राप्त हये थे, वहां सुगबंश के राजत्वकाल में ब्राह्मण धर्म उन्नत अवस्था को प्राप्त हया था। किन्तु इसका अर्थ यह नहीं है कि ब्राह्मणेतर जैन प्रादि धर्मो पर इस समय कोई संकट पाया हो। हम देखते हैं कि स्वयं पुष्पमित्र के राजप्रासाद के सन्निकट मन्दराज द्वारा लाई गई 'कलिंग जिनको मूर्ति, सुरक्षित रही थी। इस अवस्था में यह नहीं कहा जा सकता कि इस समय दिगम्बर जैनधर्म को बकट वाधा सहनी पड़ी थी।
उस पर सुग राज़ागण अधिक समय तक शासनाधिकारी भी न रहे। भारत के पश्चिमोत्तर सीमाप्रान्त और पञ्जाब की अोर तो यवन राजाओं ने अधिकार जमाना प्रारंभ कर दिया और मगध तथा मध्यभारत पर जैनसम्राट् खारवेल तथा आन्ध्र जामों के प्राक्रमण होने लगे । खारवेल की मगध विजय में आन्ध्रवंशी राजाओं ने उनका साथ दिया था। मगध पर आन्ध्र
