गुरु-हीना विनाशकारी है
३ : पगईइ मंदा वि भवंति एगे डहरा वि जे सुअबुद्धोववेआ । आयारमंती गुणसुट्ठिअप्पा जे हीलिया सिहिरिव भास कुज्जा ॥
कई आचार्य आयु से वृद्ध होते हुए भी स्वभाव से मन्दबुद्धि होते हैं तथा बहुत-से छोटी अवस्था वाले नवयुवक भी श्रुतधर एवं बुद्धि-सम्पन्न होते हैं । अतः सदाचारी और सद्गुणी गुरुजनों की अवज्ञा नहीं करनी चाहिए भले ही वे ज्ञान में न्यूनाधिक कैसे ही हों, क्योंकि इनकी अवज्ञा सभी सद्गुणों को भस्मीभूत कर देती है जैसे अग्नि ईंधन राशि को ॥ ३ ॥
४ : जे आवि नागं डहरं ति नच्चा आसायए से अहिआय होइ । एवायरियं पि हु हीलयंतो निअच्छाई जाइपहं खु मंदो ॥
जिस प्रकार यह सर्प तो बहुत छोटा है, इस विचार से कोई उसकी कदर्थना-आशातना करता है तो वह लघु सर्प भी अहितकारक होता है। उसी प्रकार अल्पवयस्क आचार्य की अवहेलना करने वाला मन्दबुद्धि साधु जन्म-मरण के पथ का पथिक बनता है अर्थात् संसार में परिभ्रमण करता है ॥४॥

3, 4. Some acharyas, although senior in age, are not profound in knowledge and others, although young in age, are intelligent and scholarly. Therefore, one should never neglect disciplined and virtuous seniors irrespective of the comparative depth of their knowledge. Because such neglect consumes all virtues exactly as fire consumes fuel.
It is harmful to ignore a little snake thinking that it is very small. In the same way an ignorant ascetic who neglects a young acharya is caught in the cycles of life and death.
५ : आसीविसो वावि परं सुरुट्ठो किं जीवनासाउ परं नु कुज्जा । आयरियपाया पुण अप्पसन्ना अबोहिआसायण नत्थि मोक्खो ॥
