स्थान पर खड़ा हो, आगे तथा बगल में खड़ा न हो। पाए. वंदिज्जा-चरण छूने के संदर्भ में नीयं का अर्थ झुकना है। नीअं कुज्जा य अंजलिं-झुककर अंजली करे या हाथ जोड़े। ELABORATION:
(17) Neeyam-at a lower level; with humbleness. In different contexts the meanings are—while moving one should not be in front but at the rear of the guru and neither too far nor too near; while standing or sitting he should not sit at a higher level or ahead of the guru but at a lower level or behind him; in context of touching feet of the guru it means to bend; and in context of offering salutations it means to bow.
१८ : संघट्टइत्ता काएणं तहा उवहिणामवि।
खमेह अवराहं मे वइज्ज न पुणु त्ति य॥ यदि कभी असावधानीवश आचार्य के शरीर का अपने उपकरणों से या शरीर से स्पर्श हो जाय, तो उसी समय शिष्य नम्रतापूर्वक कहे-आप मेरा यह अपराध क्षमा करें, फिर कभी ऐसा नहीं करूँगा॥१८॥ ___18. If he happens to inadvertently touch the body of the | guru with any part of his body or his equipment, he should at once beg his pardon with all humility and assure that this will not be repeated.
१९ : दुग्गओ वा पओएणं चोइओ वहई रहे।
एवं दुबुद्धि किच्चाणं वुत्तो वुत्तो पकुव्वई॥ जिस प्रकार दुष्ट बैल लकड़ी आदि से बार-बार हाँकने पर रथ को वहन करता है, ठीक इसी प्रकार दुर्बुद्धि शिष्य भी आचार्य के बार-बार कहने पर ही उनका काम करता है।।१९॥
19. A stubborn ox pulls the cart only after being repeatedly goaded by a stick, in the same way a stupid disciple does any work only after being repeatedly told by his guru. २० : आलवंते वा लवंते वा न निसिज्जाए पडिस्सुणे।
मुत्तूणं आसणं धीरो सुस्सूसाए पडिस्सुणे॥ ३१६
