सामने से आते हुए कटुवचन के प्रहार कानों से हृदय में पहुंचकर दौर्मनस्यदुर्भाव उत्पन्न कर देते हैं। जो शूरवीरों के अग्रणी, इन्द्रियजयी पुरुष इन वचन प्रहारों को 'यह मेरा धर्म है' मानकर शान्तिपूर्वक सहन कर लेते हैं, वे जगत् में पूज्य होते हैं।॥८॥
8. Bitter words launched at someone enter through the ears and reach the mind to provoke bitter feelings. Considering it to be his duty, the best among warriors and braves and the conqueror of senses tolerates these with equanimity. He is a worthy one.

विशेषार्थ
श्लोक ८. परमग्गसूरे-परमानशूरः-शूरों में अग्रणी। स्थानांगसूत्र में चार प्रकार के शूर बताए हैं। युद्ध-शूर, तपस्या-शूर, दान-शूर और धर्म-शूर। इन सबमें धर्म-शूर (धार्मिक श्रद्धा से अथवा यह समझकर कि यह मेरा धर्म है, कष्ट सहन करने वाला) परमान-शूर होता है।
ELABORATION:
(8) Paramaggasure-the best among braves; according to Sthanang Sutra there are four types of braves-brave in war, brave in austerities, brave in charity and brave in religion. Of these the brave in religion is considered to be the best of braves because he tolerates all afflictions considering that tolerance is his duty. ९ : अवन्नवायं च परम्मुहस्स पच्चक्खओ पडिणीअं च भासं।
ओहारिणिं अप्पिअकारिणिं च भासं न भासिज्ज सया स पुज्जो॥ जो पुरुष पीठ पीछे किसी की निन्दा नहीं करते और सामने विरोधी (पीड़ाकारी) वचन नहीं कहते। निश्चयकारी एवं अप्रियकारी वचन भी नहीं वोलते, वे ही सदा संसार में पूज्य होते हैं।९॥
9. He who does not slander someone in his absence and use malicious words in his presence and never uses dogmatic and offensive language is a worthy one.
