HARSH WORDS AND TOLERANCE
१. सक्कासहेउं आसाइ कंटया-साधारणतः मनुष्य धन के लोभवश मान-सम्मान, स्त्री, राज्य-वैभव आदि की आशा से लोह के तीक्ष्ण तीर (काँटे) को भी सहन कर लेता है।
1. Even an ordinary man can tolerate the acute pain of a sharp thorn if he has the hope of getting wealth, status, a woman, kingdom, grandeur, etc. as a reward.
२. परन्तु जो किसी प्रकार की आशा से रहित क्षमा को अपना आदर्श मानकर या केवल मोक्ष की आराधना का साधन समझ लोगों के दुर्वचनरूपी तीक्ष्ण काँटों को सहन कर लेते हैं, वे वास्तव में पूज्य हैं।
(अध्ययन ९/३, श्लोक ६-७) 2. Truly lofty is the person who tolerates the pain of thorn-like harsh words, simply considering forgiveness to be his ideal and the means of attaining liberation.
