The shraman who desires only for a little even when offered in plenty, things like bed, mattress, food, etc.; who leads a contented life keeping himself happy under all circumstances is a worthy one. दुर्वचनों को सहन करे ६ : सक्का सहेउं आसाइ कंटया अओमया उच्छहया नरेणं।
अणासए जो उ सहिज्ज कंटए वईमए कण्णसरे स पुज्जो॥ कोई पुरुष धन आदि (भोगों) की अभिलाषा से लोहे के तीक्ष्ण काँटों को सहन कर सकता है, परन्तु जो साधु बिना अपेक्षा के लोभ, लालचरहित कर्णकटु वचनरूप काँटों को सहन करता है, वह संसार में पूज्य होता है॥६॥ (देखें चित्र 3 क्रमांक २३) TOLERATE HARSH WORDS
6. There are people who may tolerate the pain of sharp pointed iron nails for the sake of acquiring wealth and pleasures. But the ascetic who tolerates the thorn-like harsh and piercing words without any expectation or greed is a worthy one. (illustration No. 23) विशेषार्थ : ___ श्लोक ६. कण्णसरे-कर्णशर-कानों में प्रवेश करने पर चुभने वाले अथवा कानों के लिए बाण जैसे तीखे। इस सन्दर्भ में आचार्य महाप्रज्ञ ने अगस्त्यसिंह चूर्णि के आधार पर एक प्राचीन परम्परा का उल्लेख करते हैं-कई व्यक्ति तीर्थ स्थानों पर धन पाने की आशा से भाले की नोंक या बबूल के तीखे काँटों पर बैठ या सो जाते हैं उधर से जाने वाले लोग उनकी यह दशा देखकर द्रवित होकर कहते-अरे उठो, उठो, तुम्हें जो चाहिए। वह मिल जायेगा। इतना कहने पर वे उठ जाते थे।
