Museums of Gujarat at a Glance

The aim of our national cducation should be to develop the people's intelligence through the medium of our national culture and in this process museums can play very important role. By studying our ancestors and ancient heritages we come to know ourselves. Then, how can we think of National Education without museum ? Museums are, essential instruments for National Education. The development of museums, therefore, should not be neglected. The museums of Gujarat have been growing and developing. These days more and more emphasis is given to the creation of tribal muscums, mcmorial muscums science and technological musems, science ccntrcs, and science parks in Gujarat. Efforts are being made to introduce marine wealth section, gcological wealth section and children section in tvery important museums run by the Government of Gujarat. A time is not far when cvery district of Gujarat State will have at least onc museum to serve the people. Categorics of Muscums in Gujarat :
Gujarat has carved a prominent place in the museum map of India. There are around 51 museums, big and small in Gujarat. Out of 51 muscums, some of the Museums are run by private bodies and some of the muscums are administered by the state Government, Municipal Corporations and A. S. I.
The 51 muscums grouped as under : General muscums. Art and Archacological muscuns. Ethnological muscums. Mcdical muscums. Natural History muscum. Specialised museums : Textile, Utensils, Kitc. Personalia museums,
Muscums in Gujarat uphold National heritage and promote international understanding, Gujarat, a tourist region, is rich in Cultural teasures housed in splendid museums of the State. There exist about fourty five muscums of different categories representing Art, Archacology, Natural History, Science and Technology, Gujarat is also rich in animal life which could be seen in its sancturics, national parks and Zoos.
Gujarat is fortunate in having a good number of Museums which are very popular. The task of preserving these fine institutions has been accepted by the Department of Muscums and, it is now fully geared up to make them active centres of cducation for the community.
